Robert Redford in The Natural – The Final Homerun

This is one scene that I’ll never forget. The Natural is a film that gives glory and magic back to the game of baseball. DISCLAIMER: This video is not meant to discredit those filmmakers involved in The Natural. I am not apart of the black market, or affiliated with a private interest group hellbent on taking money from the filmmakers. This is a simple posting of one my favorite scenes for casual enjoyment not to take anyone’s work away. It will not offer the meaning of life nor will it explain why Freud sounds like an asshole sometimes. It wont win you the lotto or give you a ride to school or get you laid. Nor will it make the car of your dreams appear suddenly in your broken concrete driveway. ENJOY

@sunnygirl724 Funny, I think that was already established when they made the bat together, I’m simply saying there is? a long pause where the batboy is just standing there, and it’s a bit too much. I love this movie, I’m not a hater. If anything, what’s really important here with the batboy is that he gets another ‘special’ bat since his just snapped, and what better than one that was made the way his was.

@zizwop Im sorry to say, but indeed, you might might be the only ones who thinks that the “goofy” bat boy ruins this scene. We are studying this movie in my English Honors class in highschool, and comparing it to Homer’s Odyssey, specifically looking at the Hero Cycle Elements Roy encounters. This scene may not seem important, but it is developing a “Mentor”, or father-son relationship between the two, something that Roy will have to become used to, considering? he is now a dad. Sit down son!

@eightpans Troll detected… get out! Before attempting to talk to? me about filmmaking or sports learn to troll, you stick out like a sore thumb. Cheers.

@Exodous23 Wny don’t you talk? to Veterans who’ve got bullets and shrapel in their guts. You might change your opinion.

The life Roy wanted as a prospect was why? he was shot. He wanted to break all the records and be the best ever; him hitting this last home run does NEITHER. If Roy continued being obsessed with being the BEST, he’d be no good to? anyone, including himself . Instead, he hits the home run to save Pop Fisher, the team, and his family. But in putting the others FIRST, he ends up achieving glory. The scene at the end playing catch with his son has EVERYTHING to do with this scene.

You want a movie that is guaranteed to? make a grown man cry? Look no further.

The only thing that bothers me is why is his stomach bleeding? U mean to tell me a wound from? 10+yrs would suddenly reopen from swinging a base ball bat? Also the diagnosis that his stomach would explode from too much exertion earlier really made that seem ludacris. Besides that great movie.
